INTRODUCTION: The Airframe Mechanic will inspect, maintain, and repair aircraft structures, hydraulic/pneumatic systems and system components. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams and applicable technical data. Performs component repair of aircraft structures and hydraulic/ pneumatic systems as required; uses and maintains hydraulic/ pneumatic test equipment. Identifies, selects and properly utilizes common tools, calibrated equipment, and special support equipment/ tools in the performance of maintenance procedures.
- Select and utilize appropriate technical publication manuals (paper and electronic) to include Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs) in support of all assigned maintenance actions and skill areas.
- Research, interpret and comply with Technical Directive (TD) requirements for aircraft components.
- Perform Scheduled, Unscheduled, Special and Phase Maintenance inspections as directed through MRC decks.
- Inspect and make repairs to rubber and plastic components used in the aircraft structure.
- Inspect aircraft surfaces to prevent and control corrosion of aircraft metals using established procedures. Clean, treat, prime and apply approved top coat paint surface to protect aircraft surfaces.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and fuel system discrepancies. Operate required tooling and equipment in support of hydraulic and fuel system repairs. Observe and apply all safety and contamination standards when working with fuel and hydraulic systems.
- Perform maintenance in the removal, repair, replacement, and installation of aircraft component parts such as wings, control surfaces, access panels, landing gear doors, engine access doors/ cowlings, component rigging, and landing gear. Perform required lubrication procedures.
- Observe personal safety and line precautions around aircraft and work spaces. Demonstrate a working knowledge of first aid procedures to be used in an emergency.
- Operate support equipment for flight line maintenance of established procedures.
- Comply with policies and procedures as set forth in the company’s Handbook of Policy and Procedure.
- Comply with the provisions of the corporation’s Standard Practice Procedures manual and DoD 5220.22-M when handling classified information to include generating, marking, storing, handling and destroying of classified material.
- Work, cooperate and communicate, as directed, with supervisors, team leaders and coworkers satisfactorily. This includes the professional, mature acceptance of constructive criticism.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Must possess a strong knowledge base of Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), maintenance publications, orders, and directives.
- Must possess working knowledge of fluids and gases and the principles of their use, as applicable to hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Practical knowledge of color-coded charts of aircraft plumbing, piping, lines and electrical systems and interpretation of technical data.
- Must be an Aircraft Airframe Mechanic, with a minimum of four (4) years experience equivalent to U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 6156.
- Must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe License or A&P certification; commensurate experience in the aviation field may also apply.
- Must be able to obtain a level of experience to become a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI)/Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR).
